Position Overview:
The Controller at Out of the Box Technology will be a key financial leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will ensure the integrity of financial information, provide strategic insights, and support the company’s growth through sound financial management. The Controller will also play a critical role in process improvement, system optimization, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Accounting Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, providing insights and recommendations to the CFO and executive team.
- Implement and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures in compliance with GAAP.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Analysis:
- Support the CFO in developing and managing budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
- Analyze financial trends and variances, offering strategic recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Monitor cash flow and working capital to optimize liquidity and financial stability.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Manage audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure adherence to financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
Process Improvement and Systems Optimization:
- Evaluate and enhance accounting systems, tools, and processes to increase efficiency and scalability.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, data accuracy, and operational effectiveness.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Provide mentorship and training to finance staff, ensuring professional growth and competency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support business objectives and financial decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or finance required; CPA or CMA required.
- Audit experience required either as (i) a former auditor at a public accounting firm or (ii) at a private company that has been audited by a public accounting firm
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership roles.
- Industry knowledge: Experience in technology, professional services, or franchising is a plus.
- Technical skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or other ERP systems).
- Analytical ability: Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Leadership and communication: Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and communicate financial information effectively.
- Problem-solving: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
